On December 11, following the completion of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage, co-constructed by Poly Changda, a subsidiary of Poly International, was officially opened to traffic. After more than 1,500 days and nights of construction, the project once again set a world record, further strengthening the cross-river and cross-sea transportation network in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It also injects a powerful boost to regional integration development, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of Macau’s return to China.

Leveraging its experience from the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge?projects, Poly Changda innovatively introduced the country’s first “dual-span cyclical construction process.”?The company also independently developed an integrated system for automatic resin barrel opening, dispensing, and adding, effectively handling harsh and variable weather conditions, as well as high salt and temperature environments. This allowed for the completion of 164,500 square meters of steel bridge deck paving. Among them, the Huangmaohai Bridge single-paving area reached 26,350 square meters, spanning 1,700 meters, setting world records for both the largest single-paving area and the longest single-paving distance.

The Huangmaohai Bridge is a key component of the project, with Poly Changda responsible for the installation of 100 bridge segments and the lifting of nearly 36,000 tons of steel box girders. In response to the frequent impacts of typhoon season, the project team used 3D animation simulation technology to ensure precise lifting?and employed high-precision measurement robots to efficiently observe the installation dynamics. Ultimately, the team completed the final steel box girder installation with an error margin of just two millimeters, contributing to the creation of the world’s largest three-tower cable-stayed bridge with the longest span.
Main tower design “ingeniously crafted”

From the shores of the South China Sea, the main towers of the Huangmaohai Bridge stand like five “slender waists” rising above the waves. This internationally innovative design?is the result of three specialized technical teams formed by Poly Changda: the “Curved Tower Column Shape,” “Concrete Quality Enhancement,” and “Tower Column Crack Control.”?After numerous tests and practices, the project team pioneered the intelligent hydraulic climbing formwork technology for curved single-column towers, maximizing the precise “heightening” of the towers, making the “slender waists” more resistant to wind and waves and easier for navigation.
Over the course of more than 1,500 days and nights, Poly Changda overcame numerous challenging feats in bridge construction: building the longest steel trestle bridge in Guangdong in 180 days, using smart tooling equipment to create 100% Class I quality piles, and constructing the Huangmaohai service area in the style of overseas Chinese watchtowers... These efforts have helped establish a “golden waterway” linking the two banks of the Pearl River.
Today, the Huangmaohai Cross-Sea Passage marks a new starting point for connectivity and integration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Poly Changda will once again embark from the Huangmaohai Bridge to create the next bridge-building miracle.
